This week in 410:
Looking ahead to week 4:
I have sent home a few things this week so if you haven't already seen them, please check your 4th grader's homework folder or backpack:
I have sent a separate email home about our field trip on Monday. Please read that email thoroughly. This week, we started our first unit in shared reading entitled "Government in Action." The essential question is "How can government influence the way we live?" This may be an interesting topic of conversation between you and your child on a car ride or at the dinner table. :) Our focus in grammar was capitalization. We started our unit on Informative writing, where students are writing about how Camarena students can show that they are being safe, respectful, and responsible. We wrapped up chapter 1 in Math with our test and will be starting chapter 2 next week. In social studies, students worked on a post card about the region that they researched, and we played kickball basketball in PE. Next week, we will have VAPA on Wednesday afternoon. Have a great weekend! Last week, we finished up the first 13 days of school! During these 13 days, students were learning school and classroom expectations, daily routines, and we had our first library and VAPA days. Last Wednesday was our first VAPA day. At 11:20, students had music and dance class. In shared reading, we reviewed thick and thin questions, and learned about the different types of text structures. Students also learned about the various types of text and graphic features that can be found in texts. Students learned about what a 4th grade paragraph needs to include and we use the acronym "RACE": Restate the question, Answer the question, Cite the evidence, and Explain how the evidence proves your answer to the question. In math, students learned how to round, rename, add, and subtract multi-digit numbers to the hundred thousands place. Our social studies focus this quarter is California Regions, and students are currently researching their region using their textbooks and will soon be referencing online sources to continue their research. We played four square in PE. Upcoming important information:
Reminder:
On the first day of school, students chose what day next week they would bring in their brown bag of items that represent them. Please check in with your 4th grader to ask them what day they chose, and to remind them to have their bag ready by that day. I am so excited to see what they chose and to hear how it represents them. Please remember to send their supplies with them to school on Monday! To see the list again, click here. Next week will be Color Days at Camarena to support the TK and Kinder classes! On Monday, wear red. See below for the rest of the days: Please look out for Mr. Soileau's blog on the Camarena website on Sunday afternoon for other important dates and news! https://camarenarobogriffins.blog/
Tomorrow is the first day of school. School starts at 8:15 and students will line up outside our classroom. It will be a minimum day with a dismissal time of 1:15.
Please click on the "Supply List link" above for supplies that are needed this year. A hard copy will also be sent home tomorrow. Please also go to our Camarena website for important events tomorrow morning right after school starts and events coming up in the next few weeks. |
