Thanks to those parents who have signed up for the newsletter! Many thanks also to those parent volunteers that have been assisting this week, you have been amazing!
This week has been jam-packed with lots of learning! We began the week with main idea and key details, using text and graphic features to gain better understanding of the text that we're reading, nonfiction text structures, key events and summaries, and author's evidence in reading. After analyzing an exemplar narrative text and making writing goals for themselves, 4th graders learned about narrative summary and planning using the plot mountain. They have also planned the narrative story that they will be writing this quarter. In math, we have continued our work in place value; comparing numbers, rounding numbers, and estimation. And finally, we wrapped up our Social Studies unit in California Regions with a post card that they created on the region that they researched.
Tomorrow (Friday), they will have VAPA for the first time this year. Here are some more important upcoming dates:
8/14 - Math mid-module assessment on place value understanding
8/23 - Curriculum Night at 5:30
